Your Air Conditioner (or some of its Components) May Need to be Replaced

1. You’re not getting cold air.

Maybe this one is obvious, but if you’re not getting any cool air, there’s probably something wrong with your AC. Any number of issues can be the cause, from low refrigerant levels to a broken compressor. Sometimes, it requires only a simple fix. But if the repair is extensive, or it happens regularly, you may be looking at a replacement.

2. The air flow isn’t all that good.

So maybe you’re getting cool air, but your AC isn’t pushing air out or circulating it through the home But depending on your system’s age and the extent of the issue, it may make more economic sense to install a new unit.

3. There’s a lot of moisture around the unit or it’s leaking.

While some condensation around an air conditioner is normal, excessive leakage can represent a much larger problem. If you have an issue with a refrigerant leak or notice large amounts of water around your AC unit, you may have a serious issue that needs to be addressed right away. Leaking coolant can pose a health risk to you and your family, and excessive water can damage floors, ceilings or furniture and even lead to mold growth. Call Levco today!

4. Your AC is making unusual sounds.

Do you hear a loud grinding sound coming from your AC? How about rattling, banging, squealing, and other noises that just don’t seem right? These noises can often reflect a serious issue – such as a belt slipping out of place or broken motor bearings – that could lead to a costlier repair or need for replacement if not addressed immediately. Turn off your AC system and call Levco as soon as possible.

5. Some zones aren’t getting cool

Many homes have more than one AC system or zones. Sometimes, cooling issues aren’t with the main AC components, but with the thermostat. A faulty thermostat can prevent the system from effectively cooling any given area in your home. If the other rooms feel fine and the issue is confined to a single zone, it may be worth having the technician check to see if the thermostat is the culprit. If so, you might be able to replace or even upgrade a thermostat instead of replacing the whole system.

6. You’ve had the system more than 10-15 years.

The average AC system lasts about 10 to 15 years. If your system is older than that and still running smoothly, thank your technician! However, with newer models focusing on energy efficiency, you may save money in the long run through by upgrading modern and efficient system.

7. Your AC system needs frequent repairs.

If your AC technician is a frequent visitor to your home, it may be time it may be time to cool down that relationship. While Levco cares about our customers, we don’t want to wear out our welcome. It may be more cost effective to simply replace the unit or system than to constantly repair it. Call us today to help you determine the best way to keep you and your wallet cool and your home comfortable.
